It’s funny how I never noticed before how neatly this scene is set up, like diametrically-opposed ceremonies being conducted at opposite ends of a nave – one sermon an oversweet gauze of sentimentality, the other, pure fire and brimstone – each delivered by a celebrant with a speech impediment.
