Go Ask Alice: About me

Square

‘Who are you?’ said the Caterpillar.

Who is Alice you ask?

I live and work in the quirky and artistic heart of Baltimore, Maryland, with my husband Gerrit and our feline companion Kai.

‘What do you mean by that?’ said the Caterpillar sternly.

I’m always in search of a good cup of coffee and have a weakness for salty snacks, books, and the geeks and misfits of this world. I never met an Oscar Wilde quote I didn’t like.

‘I don’t see,’ said the Caterpillar.

A fan of quirk and sarcasm, I nurse a continually-bleeding heart beneath it all. I’m chronically un-rested and more than a tad obsessive.

I barrel through life insisting on a plan for everything when in reality I never really have one for anything. And I MAY be more of a caterpillar than an Alice. But don’t tell anyone

I’m an enthusiastic believer in the power of pairing conventional and natural medicine to reach optimal health.

I’ve spent my entire 25-plus-year career in the natural-health publishing field helping to spread the word. More than five of those years were spent as the Managing Editor of a book publishing division where I served as the editor for over a dozen health titles. I also spent years working as part of a team that develops and promotes the use of all-natural high-quality nutritional products.

In addition to my work as an editor, I have authored a number of protocols, reports, and articles on healthy living and the all-too-common clash between corporate interests and the basic human right to enjoy good health. I’m an advocate of self-education and am passionate about the power of group knowledge sharing and building community.

I firmly believe we’re on the precipice of a revolution when it comes to obesity medicine. Science has finally begun to crack the code of this incredibly complex condition, and the breakthroughs are now happening at a fast and furious pace.

I started on a GLP-1 medication to treat my disease at the end of November 2025, and it’s the best thing I have ever done for myself. For the first time in my battle to lose the weight and keep it off, I feel like I found the key to my success.

Unfortunately, I’m among the far too many whose insurance does not cover this medication for obesity. Working with a telehealth company that I’m incredibly grateful for (Amble https://intake.joinamble.com/?grsf=qm9jnj ), I’ve been able to purchase my own meds out-of-pocket from an FDA-regulated pharmacy.

I’ve already lost a significant amount of weight and hope to lose more. I don’t think GLP-1s are a tool. They’re a treatment for a disease, and I plan to stay on the meds for the rest of my life. Similar to how someone with thyroid disease will continue to take a thyroid medication to address their condition, I will take a GLP-1 or similar medication.
