I have seen this video at least a dozen times. Shared it on Twitter–more than once–and most likely here on this blog before (I am feeling to lazy to search and see). But I never fail to cry when I watch it. It’s such a lovely little story. The waterworks started even before I hit play this time.
Luckily there is no one here to see it right now but the cat. I decided what the heck I am going to share it AGAIN. Maybe bring a few tears to a few more eyeballs this afternoon.
The whole back story is included in the video itself so I will just say enjoy!
(Darn I just watched it again and cried again. I am such a sucker. And yes Joe, probably not anywhere near as cynical as I pretend to be.)

I know what you mean. I’m the same way with the video for “Nice People” by Chief. I’ve posted that out there sharing to people for like…five or six times by now.
That was a beautiful video. But I am glad it turned out that way! I am not, you know, a pessimist. All I am saying is: had the lion responded “differently,” we would never, ever have blamed the lion.
Hm. Not to be critical, but what’s with Christian’s mane? Is he getting enough nutrients, or what? That’s not the full, flowering, neck-protecting flow I’m used to seeing on a pride-leading lion.
Best use of that song since The Bodyguard.
I loooove this video!
Faith, hope, & love.
Happy Thanksgiving, Alice. Blessings to you & yours. 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving back at ya Jamie! 🙂
Hope you have a wonderful day filled with family, food, and fun.
True Joe, nature is nature. Had he moved on and forgotten them no one could have blamed him. But I am so glad he didn’t 🙂
He was a young un at the time. I think perhaps the mane gets fuller with time. When I watch the lions on Discovery and such the younger males usually have smaller manes. Gotta earn that full beard…he he
I’m even gladder he didn’t eat them!
I gotta not watch this one again, it’s definitely a cumulative effect. I almost started bawling when he recognizes them and breaks into a run!
I kid you not that the tears roll down my cheeks like I have sprung a leak when I watch it (or other versions of it…there are a few floating around). And yup it is when he spots them. You can see the click of recognition and he starts running to them that I start crying. Even talking about it makes me feel a tad chocked up.
Huh. Now that you mention it Joe maybe it IS a cumulative thing. That would explain it! 🙂
PS- ever have that thing where a normal everyday word all of a sudden looks alien and wrong to you and the more you look at it the more it is unrecognizable? Yeah that just happened when I typed the word choked.
Yes I do! The ol’ jamais vu.
