You might not have been truly conscious of it’s existence before. (I honestly don’t think I really was.) But trust me when I say you DO know what has been deemed “The Spielberg Face.”
It’s that moment in a film when there’s a close up on the character’s face. They are looking at something off screen. The eyes are wide and staring. The mouth is often slightly open.
It’s a look of pure amazement and it signals something huge and world altering is happening or is about to happen. We are being told get ready it’s time to react…time to feel….to wonder.
It’s an iconic image…woven into the fabric of our collective movie-watching experience and while Steven Spielberg certainly didn’t invent it I think few could argue against the fact that he did perfect it.
