Elves and sprites are actually super-short lived and luminous electric phenomena produced during storms in the upper layers of the atmosphere. A team of Spanish researchers has managed to capture some on high speed film. And they are aweeesome to look at!
Sprites are the carrot shaped ones and elves are the ring shaped guys. In the series of photos you can see two sprites clashing…neat.
