Making Music With the Thermonuclear Detonation Of White Dwarfs

…huh, who knew….

For your listening pleasure…and to satisfy your space geek needs…I present to you the Supernova Sonata.

I can’t possibly explain this correctly so I will just say that each supernova in this video was assigned a note based on its distance away and a pitch based on how it brightens and fades (called it’s “stretch”) and they they were put together and voilà star death music (as opposed to Death Star music which is a whole other thing altogether)!

Now if you’re a fussy type and it’s the correct explanation that you want you can go to astronomer Alex Parker’s explanation of what he helped create here or click through to his explanation on Vimeo (here).
