I believe the 1940’s, during WWII, must have been the most productive (not to mention creative) poster producing time in our country’s history. The sheer volume of poster work done during that time is staggering. And the artistry and creativity that went into them is nothing short of extraordinary.
Sure, when you get right down to it, they were the USA’s version of propaganda. But talk about impressive.
Below are a few of my favorites from the “Jenny on the job” series produced by the U.S. Public Health Service. I believe all of these were from 1943 and ended up in the Northwestern University Library archives in 1944. (Thank goodness for libraries!)
